Seekers Musical To Open in December
The date, and the cast, were unveiled Aug. 24 by Melbourne lord mayor Robert Doyle symbolically at the Myer Music Bowl. In 1967, the act set a new attendance record drawing 200,000 to the site. “There is no other city in the world we could have opened this in,” said Richard East, its co-producer with Denis Smith.
“Melbourne is the home of The Seekers, and where it all began for Judith (Durham), Athol (Guy), Keith (Potger) and Bruce (Woodley) in 1962 before they went on to capture the hearts and conquer the charts of the rest of the world.”
The act reached No. 1 in the UK with its first three singles and was the first Aussie act to top the U.S. chart with “Georgy Girl.” The musical’s 14-week Melbourne run will be followed by a nine-week season at Sydney State Theatre in April 2016.
