The Charlatans UK In NA
The upcoming run through North America is one part of the larger Charlatans touring picture. The band has been on the road for most of the year in support of its latest LP, Modern Nature, released in January. The album includes appearances by the band’s three temporary drummers – Pete Salisbury of The Verve, Stephen Morris of New Order and Gabriel Gurnsey of Factory Floor – along with Kate Bush backing singers Melanie Marshall and Sandra Marvin. Dexys’ Big Jim Paterson supplies the brass on the record; Sean O’Hagan the strings.
Known simply as The Charlatans outside the U.S., the band is often listed on North American club calendars and festival lineups as The Charlatans UK in order to avoid confusion with the San Francisco band of the same name that was founded during the ’60s.
You’ll find The Charlatans UK on the lineup for Fun Fun Fun in Austin, Texas, where the band begins its North American trek. Mexico City’s Corona Capital Festival concludes the journey.
Support on the tour will be provided by Portland’s Eyelids – made up of former and current members of Decemberists, Guided By Voices and Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks.
Today’s announcement comes with some eye candy in the form of a video depicting The Charlatans UK performing “Sproston Green” during the band’s sold-out show in Manchester, England.
