U2 Calls For Refugee Action

Outspoken U2 frontman Bono used his band’s gig in Italy to call on world leaders to do something about the immigration crisis in Europe that culminated with the body of a Syrian toddler washing up in Turkey.

“I don’t know the answer to the refugee crisis in Europe and Africa but I know we must work together to find an answer to the refugee crisis,” Bono said on stage at the  in Turin Sept. 4. “As Nelson Mandela said, it always seems impossible until it is done.”

Bono also added the lyrics “One boy washed up on an empty beach” to the band’s “Pride (In The Name Of Love)”.

The band had two dates in Italy and is on a mammoth European tour taking in multi-night arena stops in many countries through November.

A few weeks ago Bono made headlines for being the “richest pop star” in the world, after the UK tabloid press mistakenly reported that Bono’s Facebook shares through his Elevation Partners investment vehicle were now worth more than $1 billion. However, much of the press jumped on the news before taking into account that Bono is not the only Elevation partner. Nonetheless, it is safe to say Bono is significantly wealthy.
