George Strait Announces Vegas Run
Strait made the announcement during a press conference at the MGM Grand. Strait’s press reps sent out an email about one hour before the conference saying “a big announcement” was forthcoming. Strait said goodbye to touring with “The Cowboy Rides Away” outing which concluded at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, June 7, 2014.
Sure enough, Strait delivered the goods one hour later. Joining him at today’s press conference were Universal Music Group Nashville president Cindy Mabe and longtime Strait promoter Louis Messina of the Messina Touring Group (MTG). Messina said Strait will play the Las Vegas Arena April 22-23 and Sept. 9-10. Strait is the first announced performer for the new venue, scheduled to open in the spring. The shows represent the only opportunities to see Strait perform anytime soon.
Strait also has a new album coming out. Cold Beer Conversation arrives Sept. 25.
“I said all along I wasn’t going to tour anymore, but I also said that I wasn’t retiring by any means and I still wanted to do some dates,” Strait said. “I’ve been working a little bit here and there, and I’m really proud of this new album that’s coming out. … I think it’s a great record – I always say this; I think it’s one of the best records I’ve done. I always shoot for that. You’ve got to go in the studio thinking that way, so I’m very excited about that and I’m also very excited to be coming back out and playing for the fans out there. I’m looking forward to it so much, singing those songs that I love so much and haven’t done in a while. I’m really, really looking forward to it and I really want to thank MGM Resorts for having me here and being able to play in the new Las Vegas Arena. I hear it’s just unbelievable. I can’t wait.”
