Dates Unveiled For Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Kunta Groove Sessions’

The routing for Kendrick Lamar’s intimate “Kunta’s Groove Sessions” tour is shaping up, with dates in place for Atlanta, Dallas, Washington, D.C. and Oakland.

The rapper teased fans earlier this week with an announcement on Instagram saying he was planning to play eight intimate shows in eight cities for the first annual “Kunta’s Groove Sessions.” A poster for the brief outing says that attendees can expect “Music! Dance! Performance! & More!”

Rolling Stone points out that Lamar will be joined by a live band that’s being called The Wesley  Theory. Fellow Top Dawg rapper Jay Rock is coming along as Lamar’s special guest.

So far, just four “Kunta’s Groove Sessions” dates have been revealed. The excursion gives fans lucky enough to score tickets the chance to see the rapper up close at venues like the 1,225-capacity Lincoln Theatre in Washington, D.C. On the flip side, Lamar’s has a regular headline date booked at the 17,500-cap Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

Lamar is supporting his third studio album, To Pimp a Butterfly, which includes the track “King Kunta.” Rolling Stone calls the track “a funky stomper where Lamar assumes the role of the titular slave in Roots.”
