Judy Collins Offers Update On Joni Mitchell’s Health

The latest update on Joni Mitchell’s health status comes from Judy Collins, who says the Canadian singer/songwriter is “making good progress” recovering from the aneurysm she suffered earlier this year.

Actually, the update comes from a close mutual friend of the two artists but Joni Mitchell’s website has given the announcement its stamp of approval by reposting Collins’ Oct. 14 Facebook post. JoniMitchell.com points out that “official news about Joni is as hard for us to get as it is for anybody else.”

Collins writes, “I have just heard from a close mutual friend that Joni is walking, talking, painting some, doing much rehab every day, and making good progress–I have another friend who went through something similar-it does take a long time, three years for my friend, who has really totally recovered professional and personally. I will try my best to see our songbird when I am in LA in the coming weeks.”

The Facebook post went on to reminisce about the first time Collins heard Mitchell sing “Both Sides Now” – over the phone at 3 a.m., thanks to a call from Al Kooper.

Collins added, “I love Joni and her songs, and have been passionate about them since that night. A new Judy sings Joni CD? I think so-that is certainly in the future –mine and yours, I hope- but what is going on with her? I pray all is good news and will sing ‘That Song About the Midway’ tomorrow night in Manchester, UK.”

The last time JoniMitchell.com updated fans on Mitchell’s recovery was in late June when it posted a statement from Mitchell’s conservator, Leslie Morris, confirming that the singer did suffer an aneurysm but was expected to make a full recovery. At that point Morris said, “She is not walking yet, but she will be in the near future as she is undergoing daily therapies. She is resting comfortably in her own home and she’s getting better each day.”
