Rammstein Headlining Hurricane/Southside
It is a special occasion for Hurricane, as 2016 marks the festival’s 20th anniversary. Ever since its premiere in 1997 it has been residing in Scheeßel, northern Germany. Rammstein were already a part of it back then. Southside, as the name suggests, is staged on the opposite end of the country on the same weekend. The festival turns 18 next year.
With the exception of the first edition in 1999, which went down in Neubiberg near Munich, Neuhausen ob Eck near Tuttlingen has been home to Southside.
Last year both festivals attracted more than 125,000 visitors, with 65,000 attending Hurricane and 60,000 for Southside. While that means sold out for the latter, Hurricane could have handled a couple of thousand more. In 2014 around 73,000 bought tickets, boosting overall ticket sales to more than 130,000, making it the most successful year for FKP’s twins so far.
Hurricane and Southside traditionally offer an almost identical lineup. Rammstein headlined both festivals in 2013. 2016 will also include Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, The Hives, and Editors, as well as other distinguished German acts such as Digitalism, K.I.Z. and Genetikk.
Rammstein, by the way, will also headline DEAG’s second edition of Rock in Vienna in Austria alongside Iron Maiden.
