MSG Also Eying Queens For 2016 Fest

AEG/Goldenvoice may be up against competition when it comes to hosting an event in New York next summer following news that Madison Square Garden is also eyeing Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens for a 2016 fest.

Sources reportedly close to the matter told the New York Post MSG has filed a petition seeking to hold a festival on the site June 24-26, and plans to throw in a free celebration in the borough June 18.

The proposed timeframe appears to encroach upon AEG’s plans for its Panorama festival, which has yet to be officially announced, but is slated for June 16-19 in Queens.

“There’s no one as committed to, or more capable of, creating a world-class festival than we are,” MSG President and CEO David O’Connor said in a statement to the Post. Iving Azoff, who partners with MSG, was credited as a key ally in recruiting top talent.

The sources added details of MSG’s fest are forthcoming, but that it will celebrate all things New York and feature food, entertainment and music.
