Guns N’ Roses Reunion In The Works?
Perfect timing, with the band’s 30th anniversary and all, right? That is, if the big news is true.
Earlier this week Dish Nation said it was exclusively reporting that Guns N’ Roses was “days away” from revealing its reunion plans. The tour was expected to include dates worldwide, along with headline sets at festivals across Europe and the U.S.
Dish apparently got the scoop from a music insider who said, “Slash and Axl have verbally agreed to get things together again and reform the original band. The live shows is where they can show the world what they had and also make the greatest earnings.”
Frontman Axl Rose is the only remaining original member of the band. The lineup from GNR’s debut album, 1987’s Appetite for Destruction, featured Rose, guitarists Slash and Izzy Stradlin, bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Steven Adler. Rose’s former bandmates all split from the group in the ‘90s.
Slash, McKagan and Adler performed together for the first time in nearly 20 years when they took the stage in April 2012 to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They played with Matt Sorum (a member of GNR from 1990-1997) and Myles Kennedy, who filled in on vocals.
So far, we’re still waiting on an official announcement from the band about the 2016 reunion. But don’t let that stop you from analyzing a series of tweets sent out Nov. 8. GNR’s official Twitter started things off with a question – “What ever happened to no news is good news?” A few minutes later the Twitter account added, “Of course today everyone is a journalist.” And then there was, “If only they could read lips …” followed by “Surely they’ll read between the lines.”
Looking for more evidence? Well, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Brandi Glanville says it’s going to happen. During an interview outside of the Rhonda’s Kiss City of Hope benefit concert, Glanville declared, “Guns N Roses is coming back, motherf***ers.” Glanville was being interviewed alongside Duff McKagan’s wife, model Susan Homes-McKagan. Duff McKagan was at the Nov. 3 event as one of the evening’s performers.
Maybe the GNR reunion rumor is just a joke. After all, Wikipedia categorizes Dish Nation as “comedy / satire / news parody.”
But then again, maybe a reunion could happen. Sweden’s “Aftonbladet” ran an interview with Slash in August in which he discussed becoming friends with Axl again.
“It was probably way overdue, you know, but it’s very cool at this point to … dispel some of that negative stuff that was going on for so long,” Slash said (via Consequence of Sound).
When asked about the possibility of a GNR reunion, Slash said, “Oh, I couldn’t answer that one.”
