Jam Productions Under Fire

A group of stagehands claim they were trying to unionize when they were released from jobs at Chicago’s Riviera Theatre by Jam Productions.

The local stagehands union filed unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board against the company soon after, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The stagehands and their supporters have protested the releases in front of Jam’s o workers have continued to work at other Jam-produced events, a source with knowledge of the situation told Pollstar.

Jam Productions co-owner Jerry Mickelson would not comment directly about the complaint, but did email Pollstar a statement: “Please understand that I am not able to publicly comment about this matter while it is in front of the NLRB so please provide us the courtesy to never judge someone by the opinion of another. As Walter Cronkite once said, ‘In seeking truth you have to get both sides of a story’,” Mickelson wrote.

“Also, you should know that Jam works with union and non-union stagehands and respects the rights of every person to be represented in any manner they choose.”
