Ween Books 2016 Reunion Shows

Gene and Dean back together again – how keen! Of course, we’re talking about the one and only Ween. Those wacky guys will reunite on stage in February for their first shows since their 2012 split.

After initially booking a pair of reunion shows at 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colo., Feb. 12-13, the “incredible response” from fans convinced Ween to add a third show at the venue on Feb. 14.

“We are completely blown away by the enthusiasm and excitement that our reunion shows have received so far,” Ween posted on Wednesday. “Dean and Papa Gene Ween would like to thank each and everyone of you. See you in Colorado!”

This week’s announcement doesn’t specify whether the experiemental rock band is only reuniting for the Colorado run.

Ween hasn’t toured since 2011. Lead vocalist/guitarist Aaron Freeman announced he was retiring “Gene Ween” during a May 2012 interview with Rolling Stone. Freeman’s better half apparently had no idea the group was breaking up. Guitarist Mickey Melchiondo (aka Dean Ween) responded with a Facebook post at the time saying, “This is news to me.”

Since going their separate ways, Freeman has toured under his own name and Melchiondo has played gigs as the Dean Ween Group.

But come February, Dean and Gene will be together once more. According to the announcement on Ween’s website, the duo will be joined by longtime drummer Claude Coleman Jr., bassist Dave Dreiwitz and keyboardist Glenn McClelland.

“I can’t wait to get on that stage and hear how happy this makes people,” Freeman said in a statement via Rolling Stone.

Mechiondo added, “Ween is an extension of who we are. It’s not a persona that we put on to go onstage.”

The statement also hints at new music, saying the setlist will feature “new stuff that nobody has ever heard live before.”

The general public onsale is Nov. 20 at 10 a.m. MST. Three-day passes will be available, as well as single-day tickets. Visit Ween.com for more information.
