Texas City Loses Big On Promotion

After hosting an Enrique Iglesias concert and holiday parade, the city of McAllen, Texas, is reporting a loss of more than $750,000.

While the amount that the headliner received is undisclosed, records reviewed by the City Commission showed that the event had a $15.8 million economic impact, according to KGBT News.

“We won’t go forward as a self-promoter again,” Mayor Jim Darling said, adding that next year the city would hire a professional event promoter.

Assistant City Manager Joe Vera said one strategy to reduce losses next year is to increase the amount of money received in sponsorships from $645,000 to around $800,000.
