The Maryland Video Lottery Facility Location Commission granted MGM Resorts International the state’s sixth and final casino license in December 2013 and under that deal, MGM is obligated to open in August but the company can request a six-month extension that gives them until February, according to the Washington Post

“The 30-month period is necessary to properly construct a facility of this scope, scale and size,” which began construction in May 2014, MGM National Harbor spokeswoman Suzette Meade told The Post The $1.3 billion entertainment venue overlooks the Potomac River in Prince George’s County and is expected to bring millions of dollars in revenue to the area.

The project includes a 3,000-seat theater, 300-suite hotel, restaurants, slot machines and gaming tables, according to the Post.
