Club Owners Consider Armed Bouncers
Officials are raising concerns over a bid by Providence, R.I., nightclub owners to arm their bouncers.
The Providence Board of Licenses is considering a proposal by club owners who want their security personnel to have weapons to increase safety for patrons.
The board March 14 sought advice from police. The Providence Journal reports that state Sen. Juan Pichardo, board chairman, said matters could get sticky if police are called to a scene and can’t find a culprit because multiple guns are drawn.
Another concern that has been raised is that private security guards aren’t trained the same way as police.
