LN Acquiring GovBall?
Live Nation is reportedly poised to acquire the Governors Ball festival in Randall’s Island, N.Y., potentially setting up a clash of the New York summer titans with AEG’s Panorama.
“We do not comment on rumor or speculation,” Live Nation spokeswoman Carrie Davis told Pollstar. However, multiple sources told Amplify that a deal was indeed in the works and nearly finalized. Current owner Founders Entertainment probably won’t be seen as particularly independent any longer, as it already partnered with Live Nation on the country-leaning FarmBorough festival.
Governors Ball co-founder Jordan Wolowitz was said to be considering an offer from AEG until Panorama was announced. That flirtation clearly ended and Wolowitz took to the Internet, launching an unsuccessful online petition to New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio to block AEG’s festival.
