Voivod Set To Slay Western North American Shows

Fresh off a tour of the East Coast and Midwest, Voivod has announced a journey on the western half of the U.S., as well as a handful of dates in its native Canada. The metal act, which will be touring with King Parrot and Child Bite for their Post Society tour, has 28 shows scheduled in North America, including two festival appearances.

The first date is in Dallas, Texas on May 19, and they will play four shows in the Lone Star State. From there they will move into Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, California, Oregon and finally end their U.S. dates in Seattle, Wash., June 11.

The group will then rumble through its home country, playing nine shows in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and finally in Quebec where they will play the Amnesia Rockfest on June 25. This North American tour will also feature a stop in Mexico City at the Hell and Heaven Fest on July 23.

The band has been making music for over 30 years, although only Michel “Away” Langevin and Denis “Snake” Bélanger of the original band remain. Founding guitarist Denis “Piggy” D’Amour died of colon cancer in 2005.

Voivod’s brand of headbanging has evolved over the years and has blended different genres of thrash and speed metal with what they now describe as “progressive sci-fi” metal.

The band has developed a loyal following and former Voivod and Metallica member Jason Newsted publicly acknowledged that Voivod’s unique sound has had a huge influence on other bands that have followed in their footsteps, but they aren’t often given the recognition they deserve.

Promoting its latest EP, Post Society, which features five new songs, the band has said it is also currently working on more music to complete a new album. The group’s last full release was Target Earth in 2013.
