SF Armory Retooled

The San Francisco Entertainment Commission approved the request to host shows with a 4-2 vote April 5. The permission is conditional on the installation of additional soundproofing, the hiring of security guards and the observance of curfews, the commission’s Executive Director Jocelyn Kane said.
The building, located in San Francisco’s Mission District, was constructed in 1912 and the property extends some 2.2 acres.
The city has restricted initial show attendance to 4,000 according to an article by the San Francisco Chronicle and shows will only be allowed until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, midnight on Thursdays and 11 p.m. all other nights.
The Armory was purchased by pornography company Kink.com in 2007 and is currently used mainly for production of the company’s videos.
“We’re not going to issue a permit until we make sure the soundproofing is done,” Kane said. “That has to take place. Our sound engineers will go into neighbors’ homes and measure. It’s important that the neighbors don’t hear, smell or see whatever is going on inside.”
