New Date Set For Prince’s Atlanta Performances

Atlanta, take two. Prince announces a rescheduled stop in Georgia’s capital to make up for the “Piano & A Microphone” gigs that were postponed last week because he had the flu.

The performances at the Fox Theatre are booked April 14 at 7 pm. and 10 p.m.

As the name of the tour implies, Prince is just bringing along a piano and a microphone as he shows off “classic hits, B-sides and other surprises from his vast catalog.”

Sacramento Bee’s review of Prince’s March 4 show at Oakland’s Oracle Arena raves, “Dramatic emotion hung on his almost casual yet virtuosic piano playing. … The songs were naturally deconstructed, played solo at the piano with emphasis shifting to melodies, lyrics, and his incomparable voice, including his gripping falsetto.”

The write-up adds that an encore – featuring “Diamonds and Pearls” and “The Beautiful Ones” –  “would have made legendary piano men like Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis proud as he kicked the piano chair back, reaching the song’s climax while on his knees nearly underneath the instrument.”

Originally purchased tickets for the Atlanta gigs will be valid for the rescheduled performances. Refunds are available until April 12 at 12 p.m. EDT for fans who cannot attend the new date.

Any returned tickets will go on sale to the public April 13 at 10 a.m. EDT. Visit the Fox Theatre’s website for more information.
