The team’s final game will be against the Oklahoma City Thunder April 16. The Kings will move into the new Golden 1 Arena in downtown Sacramento.

In addition to basketball, Sleep Train has also hosted concerts and other live events. Team President Chris Granger said in December the team has not yet heard a compelling plan for how to use the arena or the land moving forward.

“We are going to say no 10 times before we say yes to something,” Granger said in an article from the Sacramento Bee. “Our shared goal is to do something that makes a difference. That happens with high-value jobs, with something that is reflective of our region’s strength.”

Councilwoman Angelique Ashby, who represents the neighborhood housing Sleep Train, has criticized the Kings in the past for not moving the redevelopment process forward, the Bee reported.

The arena, formerly known as Arco Arena and Power Balance Pavilion, was one of the smallest in the NBA, with a maximum capacity of 17,000. Despite its size, it was known for being one of the sport’s loudest venues and is credited as having a large role in the team’s success throughout the early 2000s.
