Indio City Council voted unanimously, with two abstentions, to approve up to 62,000 new attendees at the two festivals. It was decided that the increases in show size would happen gradually, so as to allow time for the city and organizers to get used to larger numbers of concertgoers. The vote was taken in response to a proposal submitted by Goldenvoice in March requesting to expand the maximum number of attendants to 125,000 for Coachella and 85,000 for Stagecoach.

In an article by The Desert Sun, Goldenvoice Vice President Skip Paige said: “We know that with the demand we have, we could do four Coachellas.” Coachella was the highest grossing music festival of 2015 with $84.26 million, while Stagecoach brought in $21.88 million.
