Splendour Sells Out In 90 Minutes

One of Australia’s longest-running festivals, Splendour In The Grass, sold out its 32,500 tickets in 90 minutes after going on sale April 21.

The event, which began in 2001, takes place at the North Byron Parklands July 22-24. A major draw is that promoters have secured the only Australian appearances from The Strokes, Sigur Ros and James Vincent McMorrow, and the return to live action after 15 years by EDM act The Avalanches.

Also performing are The Cure, At The Drive In, Jake Bugg, Courtney Barnett, Urthboy, The 1975, and Tegan & Sara, among others. The number of fans waiting online to buy tickets was triple that of last year.

This year, ticket seller Moshtix directed fans to an online green room while they waited. Some patrons complained they had to wait up to 50 minutes, adding, “Some of us have work/uni commitments and can’t stare at a virtual green room indefinitely.”

Splendour co-producers Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco said, “Once again we have been totally floored by the incredible enthusiasm and support from the Splendour community. We can’t wait to bring you another awesome edition of Splendour!”
