Utsick Trial Delayed Again

The jury trial of Jack Utsick, who pleaded not guilty to federal fraud and money laundering charges, has been delayed to June 13 so the former Worldwide Entertainment CEO could undergo a medical evaluation.

The trial, originally scheduled to begin in a Miami, Fla., federal court in late 2015, has been delayed several times; the previous trial date was May 4, according to court documents. Utsick, who is accused of defrauding investors in his various business ventures of some $300 million, has been in custody in a Miami detention facility since being extradited from Brazil in 2014.

Federal authorities allege Utsick was in Brazil to avoid prosecution, but he has steadfastly maintained his innocence and said he was living and conducting business in the country legitimately. He has been reported to be in poor health since being detained in Rio de Janeiro.
