NY Clamps Down On Ticket Brokers
NY AG Eric Schneiderman asked the ticket vendors to take stronger measures to prevent automated “bots” and hired foreign workers from snapping up tickets immediately upon their onsale, CNN reports. A document from the AG’s office said one bot purchased 15,000 tickets to a U2 concert in a single day in 2015 and that current circumstances make it nearly impossible for the average fan to get tickets to major events without paying a third party’s exorbitant markup.
Schneiderman recently got six ticket brokers to agree to $2.7 billion in fines for reselling tickets without licenses and using bots to “rig” the market, CNN reports.
