The tweet read: “Montreal due to the promoter of today’s event breaking his contract and lying I will not be able to attend today’s event. I’m sorry.”

Team Production, which was charged with organizing the Aug. 22 event, is now suing for defamation and $650,000 in lost earnings, lost reputation and punitive damages.

The company claims the Bieb’s comment negatively impacted its business.

The company says it attempted to renegotiate its payment to Bieber after deciding the artist wasn’t publicizing the event in the manner agreed upon, Lawyer Herald reported.

Discussions broke down and Bieber backed out, then sending the tweet.
