Amanda Palmer Gets Fans Singing

Before The Dresden Dolls reunites for a pair of shows in August, Amanda Palmer will hit the road in July for a brief tour with her father, Jack Palmer. Stops include the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., and two nights at New York’s Le Poisson Rouge.

The East Coast outing goes along with a collaborative album featuring Amanda on vocals, piano and ukulele, and Jack, a semi-professional choral singer, on vocals and guitar. You Got Me Singing is due out July 15. The LP features a variety of cover songs including the title track originally, recorded by Leonard Cohen, along with “Wynken, Blynken and Nod” (Lucy & Carly Simon), “1952 Vincent Black Lightning” (Richard Thompson) and “Black Boys on Mopeds” (Sinead O’Connor).

“The main inspiration behind this record was to share songs and time with my dad,” Amanda said. “It was a really good reason to spend healing time together, sharing our musical histories, all poetically punctuated by the fact that I was seven months pregnant when we recorded. I knew that from my post at the mixing desk and the mic, this music was being heard in the womb, and so the song selection was really important … we didn’t want this album to sound corny, we wanted it to sound like connective tissues between three generations. The songs had to be simple.”

Amanda was separated from her father when she was less than a year old and Jack explains that, “It was one of Amanda’s songs that began healing our fractured relationship. Years later, I hope the love that went into this project will perhaps touch listeners in the same way.”

The father/daughter duo will be joined on tour by Thor & Friends. Other family members may take the stage. Here’s the routing:
