Festival Noize: Newport Folk Fest, Riot Fest, Lowlands Paradise, Hard Summer, Loufest

Patti Smith, Alabama Shakes, Elvis Costello (solo), and Ryan Adams are among the newly added acts to the lineup for this year’s Newport Folk Festival, set for July 22-24, at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, R.I.

Organizers have been announcing new artists via postings on the festival’s Facebook page.  Here’s the complete lineup as it stands today:

Last week when Riot Fest organizers revealed their initial lineups for Denver and Chicago, Morrissey was listed as appearing at the Windy City event.  However, shortly after that press blast hit media outlets, a message posted on the Morrissey fan website True To You stated that “as of this date (May 23), Morrissey is not a part of this year’s Chicago Riot Fest.”

Although True To You isn’t an official media channel for the former Smiths singer, Morrissey has endorsed it in the past and has used it for his own messages to the masses.

What’s the story?  So far the message remains on True To You while the official Riot Fest Chicago lineup still lists Morrissey as appearing. Pollstar reached out to Riot Fest’s press rep soon after the True To You posting appeared, but we have yet to receive a response.  But then, we’re not alone as other media outlets have reported receiving no responses from the mighty Riot Fest press machine.  Such is life when the subject is Moz.

Planned for Aug. 19-21 summer’s Lowlands Paradise fest already has a very impressive lineup, what with Muse, Sigur Rós, LCD Soundsystem, Foals, Disclosure, The Last Shadow Puppets, Oscar and the Wolf, Paul Kalkbrenner, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and Eagles Of Death Metal among the notables making the trek to Evenemententerrein Walibi World in Biddinghuizen, Netherlands.

This week saw the addition of several electronic acts to the fest, including Steffi, Benny Rodrigues & De Sluwe Vos, Evian Christ, Hunee, Roni Size & Krust Present Full Cycle, Lido, Makam, Section Boyz, Hermitude, Mr. Ties, Palms Trax, Anna Meredith, The Range, Fatima al Qadiri, Mikael Seifu, De Likt, Amnesia Scanner, and others.

The folks behind the Hard Summer Music Festival want you to know they’ve added camping to the Southern California event.

Hard Summer’s first weekend at its new home at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., is set for July 30-31.  Camping plans include an on-site general store, portable toilets and portable water, showers, and 24-hour emergency medical services.  Hard Summer is also providing ADA camping for fans with special needs. 

And for you folks who can’t live without cell phones, Hard Summer will provide chargers although there are no electrical outlets available for public use.
