The Tubes Take On The U.K.
The San Francisco-based band came on the scene in 1975 with their debut album that sported the controversial track, “White Punks On Dope.” Known for their theatrics and satiric portrayal of politics, consumerism and the media, many of their shows on the 1977 run of the U.K were banned because of British censorship. And who could forget frontman Fee Waybill’s glam alter ego Quay Lewd.
The current line-up features four original members including Waybill (lead vocals), Roger Steen (guitar), Rick Anderson (bass) and Prairie Prince (drums), plus David Medd (keyboards), who has been with The Tubes since 2006. The “Mondo Pulp Tour” is a tribute to the Pulp Art era and the material may be different but they’ve “promised” to play past hits and fan favorites such as “What Do You Want From This Life,” “Amnesia,” “She’s A Beauty,” “Talk To Ya Later” and of course given the tour’s name performing “Mondo Bondage.”
“We’re thrilled to be coming back to the country that started it all for us,” Waybill said. “I embrace my British heritage; the beer and the fish and chips and the best rock and roll fans in the world. The all-new Mondo Pulp Tour will be big fun.”
