Wiz Khalifa Files $1 Million Lawsuit

Wiz Khalifa filed a lawsuit against his former manager and record label in Los Angeles Superior Court alleging the “360 agreement” he was coaxed into was not in the artist’s best interest.

The suit was reportedly filed against Rostrum Records and its founder, Benjy Grinberg, and argues that Grinberg failed to inform Khalifa of alternative agreements that would be more beneficial to his client. Under the 360 deal, Grinberg profited from sales, tours, merchandising and was allegedly acting in self-interest, according to Variety.

“An artist’s most trusted adviser is his or her personal manager. Generally, nothing good comes out when the manager decides to go into business against his artist. Unfortunately, that is the case here,” Khalifa attorney Alex Weingarten said.

Grinberg viewed it differently and issued a statement, saying, “To witness an artist turn on you after supporting them for a number of years is very disheartening. This is an egregious lawsuit filled with inaccuracies, yet unfortunately people sometimes resort to these practices as a way of conducting business.”

Khalifa ended his deal with Grinberg and Rostrum in 2014 stating he was able to do so under the California Labor Code’s seven-year rule, according to Variety. Khalifa wants compensation in the amount of $1 million plus attorney fees and punitive damages.
