Fort Wayne Seeks New Arena

A committee appointed by Mayor Tom Henry advocated in March for the construction of an arena that could host events too large for the 2,500-capacity Embassy Theatre, but too small for the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, which seats 13,000.

Since then, the Allen County-Fort Wayne Capital Improvement Board of Managers has taken ownership over the submissions process at the request of city and county officials. The main criteria for the proposals is that the venue be able to host sports and entertainment events.

Submissions are open until June 22. If the process moves quickly, the Herald Times reports construction could begin in 2017.
