AquaPalooza Tanks

AquaPalooza, a “water concert event” on Lake St. Clair northeast of Detroit scheduled July 23-24, was canceled June 3 because of safety concerns over its size and, in recent years, intoxicated boaters and brawls.

The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reports that fights, boaters falling into the water and difficulty in reaching those in trouble by first responders are among the reasons that AquaPalooza, traditionally happening on the last two weekends in July, won’t take place at Belle Maer Harbo

. The newspaper reports that last year’s event drew about 6,000 boats and 40,000 people to the site in Harrison Township.

Among the featured performers was rising country star Kelsea Ballerini. Tonic production company chief exec Eric Flynn says the free, two-day “event had gotten too big for Belle Maer Harbor.”

Flynn says plans are to resume the event next year at a new location.
