Tokyo Offers Parks As Venues
In light of a dire shortage of concert venues owing to an untimely confluence of hall closures and renovations, the Tokyo metropolitan government has made available to promoters and concert organizers 11 facilities and parks for use as substitute venues.
Three of the parks – Kasai Rinkai Park, Yumenoshima Park and Shiokaze Park – are within the 23 wards of the city.
Five other parks are located outside the city proper but within Tokyo Prefecture. All can be used for open-air concerts. In addition, “temporary halls” will be set up in two other municipal parks, Kiba Park and Koganei Park, each with a capacity of between 2,000 and 3,000.
Also, Tokyo Big Sight, a convention and exhibition facility located on the waterfront, will complete construction of a new exhibition hall in November that will be made available for concerts.
