Butch Walker Knows How To ‘Stay Gold’

Butch Walker has announced the routing for his “200 Pound Tornado of Rock N Roll Destruction Tour.” The outing kicks off in Orlando, Fla., making stops in cities such as Atlanta, Philadelphia, Toronto and Denver.

Walker’s eighth studio album Stay Gold drops Aug. 26 via Dangerbird Records. The first single, “East Coast Girl,” is out now. The LP includes 10 tracks and is the follow-up to 2015’s Afraid Of Ghosts, which dealt with his father’s death from cancer. Stay Gold is described as a celebration and Walker’s most articulate album to date.

“After coming out of the AOG album cycle and tour where, at the risk of sounding ridiculous, I spent a lot of time on stage bawling my eyes out, I felt a very calm sense of peace,” Walker said. “Like I’d done what I needed to do to get it outta my system. Every song that came after that was almost a nostalgic, celebratory … for lack of a better word – jam. And the songs just kept coming to me, which was good because that’s not always the case!”

In addition to being a singer/songwriter/musician and producer, Walker has written a book titled “Drinking with Strangers: Music Lessons from a Teenage Bullet Belt.” After his father’s death, he founded the Autumn Leaves Project partnering with the Nashville-based nonprofit, the Nikki Mitchell Foundation, in the fight against pancreatic cancer. There is also a documentary about him called “Butch Walker: Out Of Focus.”
