Ghost Announces The ‘Popestar’ Tour

Prepare yourselves for a visit from Papa Emeritus III and his Nameless Ghouls. Ghost is all set to haunt North American venues this fall, from Rochester, N.Y., to Riverside, Calif.

The Swedish metal band is continuing to support its 2015 album, Meliora, which debuted in the Top 10 in the U.S. The LP’s lead single, “Cirice,” picked up the Grammy for Best Metal Performance.

Rolling Stone named the LP in its list of 20 Best Metal Albums of 2015.

The publication’s write-up declared, “Possessed by the minor key hooks of Black Sabbath, the grandiose keyboards of Deep Purple and the more tuneful excursions of Blue Öyster Cult, Ghost are a theatrical flashback to the sinister Seventies, when The Exorcist blew up at the box office and Parker Brothers marketed Ouija boards to the mainstream. … For those wondering, Ghost’s devotion to the dark is more Kiss than King Diamond, but its music is strong enough to impress even without the Satanic shtick.”

Ghost’s summer plans are made up of festival appearances on both sides of the Atlantic, including Hellfest in Clisson, France; Denmark’s Roskilde Festival; and Chicago’s Lollapalooza. The group also has a few performances lined up with Iron Maiden.
