Turkish President Condemns Attack On Radiohead Event

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has condemned Friday’s attack against a Radiohead listening event at a record store in central Istanbul. About 20 local residents assaulted the attendees, allegedly for drinking beer during the holy month of Ramadan.

He accused both sides of being at fault. “Using brute force to interfere is as wrong as organizing an event spilling over to the street during Ramadan,” Erdogan said in remarks transmitted by his office Monday. “People who have no respect for the sensitivities of their nation and city and others who challenged this practice through an anti-democratic reaction cast a shadow on Turkey’s hospitality.”

Erdogan also wished a speedy recovery to the Korean owner of the record store who was hurt in the incident.
