Epica Storms North America

Get ready for a tour of Epica proportions. The Dutch rock act is hauling its symphonic sounds to North America for a series of gigs with Fleshgod ApocalypseArkona and The Agonist.

Things kick off in Canada with shows in Quebec City, Montreal and Toronto Nov. 4, 5 and 6 respectively, but without Arkona. Xandria, of Germany, will be picking up the slack.

Once Arkona is onboard, the tour moves to Chicago Nov. 8 and Minneapolis Nov. 9, then it’s more Canada shows Nov. 11 through Nov. 15. The run continues in the U.S. after that, continuing until Dec. 3, at Palladium in Worcester, Mass.

After the North American tour, Epica has a run of shows with Powerwolf in Europe in 2017. Prior to the tour the group is playing festivals in Mexico City, Lithuania, its native Netherlands and Brazil.

Epica uses strong compositional skills to blend metal and classical very naturally. While most European metal bands’ strong technique comes from classical training, Epica uses the operatic vocals of Simone Simons and the low growls of Mark Jansen with lots of strings to create a refined sound without sacrificing its metal edge.

The group’s lyrics wrestle with themes like religion, science and justice, as is common in metal, but the classical-style vocals make the word much easier for the average joe to appreciate.

A few bands Epica is sometimes compared to are Evanescence and Nightwish. Here is a clip to give you a glimpse of the group:
