Andy Shauf Parades Melancholic ‘Party’
As one might expect, Shauf is spending a lot of time in the Great White North, as half of the scheduled dates are set in Canada. Originally hailing from a small town in Saskatchewan, the singer-songwriter is now up for a Polaris Music Prize this year, alongside the likes of Grimes, Drake and The Weeknd.
Prior to the headline tour, Andy Shauf will be opening up for case/lang/veirs in the U.S. and playing a few festivals like Hillside and Winnipeg.
The first date of the fall headline tour is Oct. 6 at Park Theatre in Winnipeg, with Scattered Clouds. Chris Cohen takes over opening duties Nov. 23 at Starlight in Waterloo, Ontario, and the tour keeps on trucking until Dec. 10 at L’Anti in Quebec, Montreal.
The Party has received a number of positive reviews, such as Indieshuffle.com’s evaluation that “It basically sounds like Elliot Smith come back to life. In the ’70s. It’s … incredible.”
Obviously the ethereal crooning and production is right-up indie lovers’ alleys, but Shauf has found a sound that is his own and he seems to certainly own it on The Party, regardless of who else it sounds like.
