New Music & Shows From Pixies

Pixies announces a release date for its new album and unleashes the single “Um Chagga Lagga” on streaming sites across the internet. Plus, European gigs are locked down for the band’s first headline tour of the year. As the act’s current hashtag proclaims, #PixiesAreBack.

Head Carrier is set for release Sept. 30, marking Pixies’ follow-up to 2014’s Indie Cindy and sixth studio album overall. Produced by Tom Dalgety, the LP will be available as a limited edition box set, on vinyl and a CD digipack. Album pre-orders are ongoing now, including bundles with a limited edition T-shirt.

The new tunes were recorded in February at London’s Rak Studios following six weeks of writing, arranging and rehearsing, according to Rolling Stone.

The magazine points out that bassist Paz Lenchantin was recently named a permanent member of the band. She joined the touring lineup in 2014 following the departure of Kim Deal in 2013 and the short-lived stint of Kim Shattuck. Lenchantin co-wrote the Head Carrier track “All I Think About Now,” which features the bassist on vocals.

Ahead of the tour Pixies has a bunch of festival appearances lined up, including Portugal’s NOS Alive, Spain’s Bilbao BBK Live, and Belgium’s Dour Festival.

Here are the new headline dates:

Nov. 15 – Vienna, Austria, Wiener Stadthalle
Nov. 16 – Poznan, Poland, Arena Hall
Nov. 17 – Prague, Czech Republic, Forum Karlin
Nov. 18 – Montreux, Switzerland, Stravinski Auditorium

Nov. 21 – Oporto, Portugal, Coliseu Do Porto
Nov. 23 – Paris, France, Zenith Paris

The band says U.K. gigs will be added “very soon.”
