Introducing Spice Girls – GEM

On this day 20 years ago, the world was blessed with the Spice Girls’ debut hit single, “Wannabe.” The group’s Mel B, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell commemorated the historic day by filming a video thanking fans for their support and hinting that something big is happening soon.

“You’ve stood by us for 20 years and we want to say a big thank you,” Geri says in the 40-second video clip.

Mel B adds, “We want to celebrate and have a party. And when we do, you’re all invited!”

Text at the end of the video promises, “We hope to tell you soon what you want, what you really really want.”

Could the “party” mean a reunion tour? Or at least a partial reunion without Victoria Beckham and Melanie C? The video was posted on a new YouTube channel called “Spice Girls – GEM.” The acronym apparently stands for the first letter of the singers’ names: Geri, Emma and Mel.

A website has also been set up – SpiceGirlsGem.com. As publication time, the site’s only content is the 40-second video clip and links to the Twitter and Instagram pages of Geri, Emma and Mel B.

The Spice Girls last toured in 2008. All five girls reunited in August 2012 for a special performance at the Summer Olympics’ closing ceremony, performing a medley of “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life.”

While we ponder what’s next for , let’s all enjoy the classic music video for “Wannabe.”
