Cheap Trick, Jeff Beck For Classic Rock Awards

A Tokyo edition of the Classic Rock Awards, presented by Classic Rock magazine, will take place in November.

The awards show, which started in London in 2005, honors seasoned veterans of the arena and stadium circuits, not to mention classic albums that catapulted said veterans to stardom.

The awards are always accompanied by concert sets by classic rock artists. For its 10th anniversary, the awards were moved to California, and a year later it will be in Tokyo, at, of all places, the Ryogoku Kokugikan, Japan’s main venue for sumo tournaments.

According to a statement from TeamRock CEO Billy Anderson, Tokyo was selected because it is “another of rock’s spiritual homes and one with a fantastic rock heritage.

Success in Japan has long been the mark of achievement for any Western band wishing to truly make it in their careers and that ambition has only been matched by the quality and brilliance of rock that Japan has produced.”

The ceremony and concert will take place Nov. 11, featuring performances by Richie Sambora, Cheap Trick, Orianthi, Jeff Beck and Joe Walsh.
