UEFA Takes Legal Action Against Viagogo
The European football association filed a complaint against ticket reseller Viagogo for the illegal sale of tickets.
According to news reports, Viagogo staff moved into a hotel room in Bordeaux and sold physical tickets for Euro Championship matches from there. UEFA legal council Gregory Lepesqueux told Sudouest.fr (via The Guardian), “that the fact Viagogo took a commission on tickets sold between fans meant it was technically selling tickets. Euro 2016 tickets can only be bought legally through Uefa itself.”
A UEFA representative confirmed that criminal complaints against the reseller have been filed “with the public prosecutor in several cities in France” and that “civil proceedings against Viagogo before the Tribunal de Grande Instance de Paris,” the country’s high court, are being undertaken.
