Fatal Fall At Chicago Fest

A man died after plummeting two stories during Chicago Open Air Festival at Toyota Park in Bridgeview July 15. 

Robert Smucz, 29, reportedly was sitting on a railing at the mezzanine level and fell to the concrete below.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he died hours later from multiple injuries, according to the Chicago Tribune.

An investigation is under way. “We don’t believe this was a safety issue,” a spokesman told the paper. “We believe someone sat on a railing and you’re not supposed to sit on a railing.”

The death occurred on the first day of the festival that ran July 15-17. Artists included RammsteinDisturbedSlipknot, and Chevelle.
