Musician Murdered In Mexico

After performing a show with his band Sensación Caribú, singer Víctor Sánchez and his family were killed in their home in Oaxaca, Mexico, July 21.

Sánchez was reportedly tortured and decapitated in front of his wife, Sayra Reyna Bolan Ramos, and their son, Victor, 11, who were subsequently murdered. An anonymous interview by Univision with a musician close to Sanchez refuted claims that the singer’s home had previously been the target of violence and that he had received death threats.

The source said there had been shootings in the town of Juchitan for months, but Sánchez had never received notes suggesting he would be harmed and that nobody close to him knew why he had been killed. Oaxaca, a southern state in Mexico, was largely able to avoid violence related to drug cartels in previous years, but Univision reports that the city of Juchitán has seen an uptick in killings, with 58 assassinations so far this year.
