Less than a week before Selena Gomez was scheduled to give a concert at the Malawati Indoor Stadium on July 25, PAS issued a statement objecting to Gomez, saying that she dresses provocatively and “damages the morals of [Malaysia’s] Muslims,” according to the WENN Newsdesk.

The statement went on to say, “The presence of the American-born singer, who is synonymous with sexy appearances, would tarnish the sanctity of the month of Syawal, which is being celebrated in earnest and further stoke the hedonistic culture among the country’s youth.”

Syawal comes after the month of Ramadan, during which Muslims are expected to fast. PAS Chairman Hafez Sabri asked Malaysia’s Islamic Religious Council to ban the concert and direct the government to be “more careful when approving” concerts to make sure they follow entertainment guidelines set by the council.

The Gomez show went on as planned, and with, “New outfit out of respect for the culture and religion of Malaysia,” Selena Gomez News (@SelenaHQ) tweeted July 25.

In the past, PAS has asked for the same ban on concerts by Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé. Gomez opened the Asian leg of her Revival Tour at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition BSD in Jakarta on July 23, which also happened to be her 24th birthday.

Following Malaysia, the Gomez’s tour hits Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines and Japan. Reportedly, Gomez was supposed to perform in China as well, but those two concerts were removed from her website without comment.
