Flume Goes Platinum Before Sold-Out Shows
According to his Australian label Future Classic, the track was getting 1.1 million streams daily on Spotify, reached 1.5 million hits on Shazam before crossing over into the Top 40 radio and other charts.
The platinum accreditation came on the eve of 32 U.S. dates Aug. 4 to Sept. 27. Fourteen of these are sold out, including multi-day stints at Seattle’s Paramount Theatre, Los Angeles Shrine, Boston House of Blues, Atlanta’s The Tabernacle and the Bill Graham Civic in San Francisco. These are part of a 70-date world tour that has shifted 280,000 tickets so far.
The Sydney EDM act began with three shows in New Zealand last week of July. After the U.S. come 10 European dates, starting Nov. 4 at the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam, taking in Copenhagen, Berlin, Munich, Cologne, Paris, Strasbourg and London, before winding up Nov. 18 at The Warehouse Project in Manchester, UK.
The global run rounds off with seven Australian dates. These start at Perth Arena Nov. 25 and moves to the sold-out Riverstage in Brisbane, two days each at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena and Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl and winding up at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre Dec. 27. Flume is enjoying huge success at home. “Never Be Like You” was also certified platinum Down Under.
According to The Music Network’s 2016 mid-year chart, the track was the most played, streamed and downloaded track in the nation. The 24-year-old was also the star of the Splendour In The Grass festival in Byron Bay, drawing 20,000 out of the day’s 32,000 attendees to his set. Bringing on six of his favourite singers, it was the most attended set in the festival’s history.
