Foutch said it has reached an “initial agreement” with Mosaic to rename Kemper as Mosaic Arena, and redevelop the currently unused building into a regional amateur sports facility with an onsite medical clinic.

“The commitment of Mosaic Life Care is a symbolic first step for our redevelopment of the former Kemper Arena,” Foutch Brothers CEO Steve Foutch said in a statement reported by the Star. “A partner like Mosaic will be a catalyst to launch our youth sports project in the Stockyards District.”

In the meantime, an application to put Kemper on the National register of Historic Places has been filed. If granted, it would help developers get tax credits for the project, according to the paper.

The proposed $25 million to $30 million redevelopment project is targeted for completion by the end of 2017. It would add a second floor and create space for indoor soccer, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, dance, fitness and numerous other sport activities.
