Paradise City, Ariz.

SMG recently took over facility management duties for the home of the Arizona Cardinals, the  in Glendale, Ariz., and its marketing team’s first assignment was to “do something” with the upcoming  show.

GNR is scheduled to play the venue Aug. 15, the first time the original members have played the city in 20 years. Somebody on the marketing team – SMG isn’t saying who – came up with a very simple, kind of cute, kind of cheesy and ultimately brilliant idea: rename the town to “Paradise City” for the show so that when Axl Rose asks to be taken down there, he’ll already be there. Mayor Jerry Weiers and the Glendale City Council unveiled a large sign at a press conference July 20 welcoming people to “Paradise City.”

They will continue to celebrate the upcoming show with billboards welcoming the band. Social media and the Arizona Republic are part of the publicity blitz. As would be expected, government officials have already issued statements about how the grass is green and the girls are pretty.
