Daughter Books North American Headline Tour

After playing Lollapalooza and Osheaga in July, London-based indie folk band Daughter is headed back to our shores this fall for the group’s largest-ever headline tour.

The trio, which formed in 2010, is made up of vocalist/guitarist/bassist Elena Tonra, guitarist/bassist Igor Haefeli and drummer/percussionist Remi Aguilella.

Daughter is supporting its sophomore album, Not To Disappear, which was released in January on 4AD.

Not To Disappear echoes familiar touchstones: the spidery ambient gloom of The Cure circa Disintegration (“Made Of Stone”); Land Of Talk’s snarled rock (the marbled angst of “No Care”); PJ Harvey’s cloistered pop (the hushed, White Chalk-esque “Doing The Right Thing”); and Beach House’s ornate indie-pop (“How”),” A.V. Club declares in its review of the LP.

That Not To Disappear does sound so similar to other artists can be an occasional detriment. However, Daughter steers these influences into new territory by employing brutal lyrical honesty.”

Consequence Of Sound’s review begins by declaring, “Rarely have heartbreak and gloom sounded sexier than when in the hands of London-based singer-guitarist Elena Tonra. She and bandmates Igor Haefeli and Remi Aguilella are experts at crafting a cold sonic landscape that’s equal parts lush and sterile, inviting and terrifying.”

Take a listen to the single “Doing The Right Thing” and decide for yourself.
