Scorpions Back In China

A number of Western artists have had problems with performing in China, but not veteran German rock band Scorpions.

This week the band announced it would conduct its second tour of the country following its triumphant debut at the 2015 Changjiang International Music Festival, which drew some 100,000 people.

The upcoming tour will be part of the band’s 50th anniversary celebration. Vocalist Klaus Meine told Yibada.com that he was surprised at the level of interest in China for the Scorpions.

“We know there is a very strong music scene with many Chinese bands. We just wanted to give the fans a taste of European music, of the Scorpions’ music,” he said.

The organizer of the tour is Tang Xiaolei, who is based in Los Angeles. A documentary about the group will be shown during the concerts. So far only one date is confirmed, Aug. 14 in Beijing. The band will hit other Asian locales as well as Australia in October.
