Plainsong Returns To The U.S.
Before forming Plainsong in 1972, Matthews was a member of Fairport Convention and led the group Matthews’ Southern Comfort. Roberts’ resume includes time with The Liverpool Scene and playing with acts such as Roy Harper and Pink Floyd.
Plainsong split up shortly after the release of its debut album, 1972’s In Search Of Amelia Earhart, and then reunited in the early 1990s. The band said goodbye once again in 2012 after putting out an LP appropriately called Fat Lady Singing. But it wasn’t really over yet.
Last year Plainsong released Reinventing Richard: The Songs Of Richard Farina as a tribute to singer/songwriter/poet/novelist Richard Farina. He and his wife Mimi, the younger sister of Joan Baez, recorded a handful of albums, including 1965’s Celebration of a Grey Day, which was named one of the 10 best folk albums of that year by The New York Times. April 2016 marked the 50th anniversary of Farina’s death by a motorcycle accident.
Plainsong continues celebrating Farina with the acoustic U.S. outing, which will feature songs from Reinventing Richard: The Songs Of Richard Farina and other selections from the band’s catalog.
