Wayne Krantz Is Ready To Shred

Jazz master Wayne Krantz has announced a run through the U.S. in October with 2x Salvation and Star Truck, after which he runs over to Asia and Europe.

The American dates run from Oct. 4 in Sellersville, Penn., to Oct. 26 in Santa Cruz, Calif., stretching the tour across the continent. Afterwards, overseas gigs are booked Oct. 28-30 at Cotton Club in Tokyo, Nov. 1-2 at Blue Note in Beijing and Nov. 20-21 at M8 in Mainz, Germany.

Membership in Krantz’s trio will be shifting through the tour, with the bassist changing depending on the supporting act. On the nights when 2xz Salvation is playing, Oct. 4-9 and then Oct. 25- Nov. 2, that band’s bass player, Kevin Scott, will be jamming with Krantz. When Star Truck is on the docket, Oct. 12-23, Nate Wood will hold down the bass. Zach Danziger will be playing drums for the entirety of the run.

Krantz’s last album was Good Piranha/Bad Piranha from 2014, which featured dual versions of the same four tracks for eight total songs. On the “Undercover Pop Tour,” Krantz is putting his improvisational spin on songs from Bob Dylan, Sonic Youth, Prince, Talib Kweli and Mos Def, Paul McCartney, and Jethro Tull, among others.
